1. Establishing the Folder Structure
Create a clear folder hierarchy in
PROJECTS
at the beginning of the project.Include all potential subfolders early on:
Point clouds
External data
Designed models
Existing models
WMS layers
Etc.
This structure ensures consistency and makes later grouping/bookmarking easier.
Tip: Even if a folder may not be used immediately, set it up from the start to keep things predictable.
2. Creating Groups
Mirror the folder structure:
For every folder in
PROJECTS
, create a corresponding group. Also create groups for the folders that are still empty.
New files will then automatically be added to your groups and bookmarks.
Key property groups:
Create groups for important attributes such as:
MMI (model maturity index)
Discipline
Phase
Etc.
Hidden objects group (frozen):
Maintain a dedicated group for objects that should be hidden.
Update using βORβ logic β add new objects into the group instead of creating duplicates.
We recommend using one hidden group per folder in
PROJECTS
This makes it easier to organize what you hide from different folders.
Hidden objects prevents clutter in the model and let the model look nicer.
Use this to remove all objects that doesn't add value or information, to easier find the important objects in the model.
3. Creating Bookmarks
Base bookmarks on group visibility, not the model tree or hiding specific objects.
Bookmarks can reflect logical combinations of groups:
Example: Roads with MMI 200 + 300
Turn off MMI 100 and 400
Hide model tree layers for drainage, constructions, and electric
Discipline bookmarks:
One per discipline (e.g., Road, Drainage, Construction, Electric).
Combinations for multi-discipline views.
MMI bookmarks:
Separate bookmarks for each MMI status.
4. Maintenance & Efficiency
Freeze groups not currently in use to improve the viewer performance.
Use collections to organize groups and bookmarks:
Improves visibility
Makes navigating to the right group or bookmark easier
Regularly update groups and bookmarks to match evolving project needs.
