What Can You Do With This Feature?

You can connect a CSV file (like an Excel sheet) to your 3D model to enrichen your 3D models with even more data. For example:

  • Maintenance details

  • Product information

  • Construction progress

  • Links to drawings or documents

You can either upload a CSV file manually or sync it from a CDE (Common Data Environment) like SharePoint.

Tip: We recommend syncing if you update the file often — the data will then update automatically in Novorender!

1. Upload or Sync Your CSV File

  • Upload the file directly from your computer or

  • Choose to sync from SharePoint (or another CDE)

    • This means if you later update the file in SharePoint, the information in Novorender will update automatically.

2. Decide Where the CSV Applies

  • You can link the CSV to:

    • The entire project

    • A specific folder

  • To choose this, click the three dots (⋮) next to the project or folder name and select “View or edit rulesets”.

3. Select the CSV Option

  • In the top right corner, change “Ruleset type” to “CSV properties.”

4. Choose the link between your CSV and the 3D model

  • “Select key” = the column name in your CSV that links to the model

    • Pick the column in your CSV that has values mathcing values in Novorender

  • “Select Novorender property” = the matching property in the 3D model

    • This will be used to find matching objects in your model

  • All other columns in your CSV will be added as new properties to the objects in the model

  • The header of the columns will be the name of the property

Rulesets and Rules — What’s the Difference?

  • Rulesets = Groups of rules that work together. Each ruleset adds a new property set to your model.

  • Rules = Each rule connects your CSV to the right part of your 3D model.

You can:

  • Add multiple rules in one ruleset

  • Add many rulesets to cover different types of data
