The Measure Widget in Novorender provides flexible tools for creating different types of measurements within your project.
It supports point, curve, and surface measurements, and can also calculate parametric data such as areas when available.

1. Accessing the Measure Widget

  1. Open the Measure Widget from the interface.

  2. Click Select to activate measurement mode.

2. Snapping Options

  • All: Snaps to all available objects in the model.

  • Points: Snaps only to specific points, such as edges or corners.

  • Curves / Lines: Snaps to curves, edges, or line geometry.

  • Surfaces: Snaps directly to surfaces to measure parametric data.

3. Parametric and Generated Data

  • If a surface is parametric, the widget automatically retrieves accurate data (e.g., area, volume).

  • The export of the 3D models from the design software will decide whether or not the data is parametric.

  • Admins can enable an option to generate parametric data for non-parametric geometry.

    • Example: A road surface without parametric properties can still have its area measured through generated data.

4. Measurement Indicators

The measure tool uses color indicators to display measurement status:

  • Green β†’ Ready to measure.

  • Blue β†’ Calculating measurement.

  • Red β†’ No data available (e.g., terrain surfaces).

  • Yellow β†’ Measurement possible, but no parametric data available.

5. Types of Measurements

5.1 Point Measurements

  • Select a point to record its position and coordinates.

  • Option to lock a point to fix it in place.

  • Selecting a second point gives:

    • Distance between the two points

    • Coordinates for both points

5.2 Curve / Line Measurements

  • Select a curve, line, or edge in the model.

  • The widget will calculate and display the length of the curve or line.

5.3 Surface Measurements

  • Snap to surfaces to calculate:

    • Area

    • Perimeter

    • Side lengths (when available)

  • Works instantly without needing manual point-by-point selection.
