Measure the Distance Between Points

The Point Line Widget in Novorender allows you to measure distances, slopes, and angles between multiple points in your model.
It is a versatile tool for detailed analysis, construction verification, and geometry inspection.

1. Accessing the Point Line Widget

  1. Open the Point Line Widget from the interface.

  2. Click Select to activate the tool.

  3. Begin adding points in the model to create your line.

2. Measuring with Point Lines

2.1 Two-Point Measurement

  • When two points are selected, the widget displays:

    • Total length of the line.

    • Slope (inclination) of the line.

    • Elevation difference between the points.

    • Horizontal distance across the plane.

2.2 Multi-Point Measurement

  • Adding additional points provides more details:

    • Angles between each line segment.

    • Segment lengths and coordinates for every point.

    • Updated total line length.

3. Point Management

  • Undo Point: Remove the last point if you made a mistake.

  • New Line: Start a completely new point line measurement.

  • Delete Line: Remove a point line once you are finished.

    • You can also hover over the line and click the trash bin icon to delete it.

4. Display Options

The widget includes several display toggles to control the information shown:

  • Select Height:

    • On: Shows the height value (elevation) for each point.

    • Off: Hides elevation values.

  • Show Angles:

    • On: Displays the angle between each line segment.

    • Off: Hides angle measurements.

5. Locking Functions

Two powerful options allow you to simplify measurements when exact snapping is difficult:

  • Lock Elevation:

    • Locks the elevation of the first selected point.

    • Useful for measuring horizontal distances at a fixed height (e.g., measuring across the edge of a building without finding the exact matching elevation).

  • Lock Vertical:

    • Locks the vertical alignment of a point.

    • Allows you to measure distances by selecting positions in the horizontal plane while the tool automatically aligns vertically.
