The Performance Settings in Novorender let you balance between model detail and system performance, ensuring a smooth experience across different devices.
These settings are found in the User Widget and can be adjusted at any time to match your hardware and project needs.
1. Accessing Performance Settings
Open the User Widget from the settings (cog icon).
Locate the Performance Preset section.
2. Performance Presets
There are four performance tiers, ranging from less detail / higher speed to more detail / slower performance.
Left Side (Low Detail, High Performance):
Displays fewer details but runs much faster.
Recommended for weaker devices such as tablets and phones.
Helps prevent issues like white screens or models resetting to home view.
Right Side (High Detail, Lower Performance):
Shows more visual details at the cost of speed.
Best for desktop computers with strong graphics cards.
Ideal for detailed reviews and design checks.
Tip: Start with a lower preset on weaker hardware, and only increase detail when performance allows.
3. Outlines Setting
Toggles outlines around objects in the model.
Particularly useful in clipping planes, as thicker edge lines make boundaries easier to see.
Performance Note:
Outlines are graphics intensive.
On weaker devices, turn them off unless necessary.
4. Summary Table
Setting | Description | Best For |
Performance Preset – Low (Left) | Fewer details, faster performance | Tablets, phones, weaker PCs |
Performance Preset – High (Right) | More details, slower performance | PCs with strong GPUs, detailed inspections |
Outlines – On | Adds visible edge lines for clarity | Cross-sections, detailed reviews |
Outlines – Off | Removes outlines, improves speed | Weaker devices, general navigation |
5. Best Practices
If you see white screens or your model keeps resetting to home view, move the performance tier left.
For presentations or detail-heavy analysis, move the slider right to maximize clarity.
Use Outlines only when needed to highlight edges—otherwise, keep them off for smoother performance.
The Performance Settings give you control over how Novorender runs on your device, helping you strike the right balance between speed and visual detail.
